Lorna Doone - R.D Blackmore

Lorna Doone

Lorna Doone is a beautiful story. It is set in a wild field of England and it was written in 1869 by R. D. Blackmore.
The book, based on a true couple, told us the story of two families, Doone and Ridd who are facing because the first one are the villains of the valley.
And their enmity got worse when one of the Doones kills the father of one boy of the Ridds, who promise revenge against them...until he met Lorna Doone.

John Ridd is the main character of the story and he told us what happended. At the beginning of the story, he was in school and received the bad news of his father's murder. After that, he wants revenge and lived obsessed with the Doones. When he was fourteen years old, walking around the Doome's home, he met Lorna Doone. They become friends immediately, but the enmity of their families make that their relation has to be a secret.

From that moment, John and Lorna fall in love and they will have to overcome many obstacles to be together such us: the engaged of Lorna with Carver Doone (the assasin of John's father), the revolution against Doones or the secret of Lorna's life.

I completely recommend this book if you want to read a story which has all the ongredients that a good novel has to have: Romance, mistery, adventure and reality.

Besides that, the reading is light and the vocabulary is not difficult to understand.
